A virtual skyline – what workforce mobility can offer

HomeBlogsA virtual skyline – what workforce mobility can offer

On a very stormy day in December my family & I visited London’s newest addition to its skyline,The Shard. As we whizzed up the 70 plus floors my daughter asked me ‘Who lives in the Shard?’ ‘Well’, I said, ‘it’s probably offices where people come to work.’ On the top the view was spectacular and as the wind whistled by you could feel the building swaying a little, exhilarating! As we descended in the lift my other daughter commented on what a great place to work this would be with such brilliant views. It got me thinking and after a bit of research I found a news story suggesting that the take up of office space was in fact a lot lower than they had expected. It was,the article said, down to a number of factors including the location of the building in relation to the Square Mile and the cost of the office space they were charging. I thought of something else and it was this, ‘Do we need as much office space in London these days? Are we becoming a more mobile and flexible workforce?’

As you may remember from last year, there was a huge outcry whenYahoodecided to go against the prevailing trend and ban home working. If nothing else it highlighted the fact that more people are spending increased time away from the office whether that be working at home, working in customer offices or working on remote sites. It’s becoming the accepted norm and businesses need to ensure that flexible working patterns are available to ensure they can attract the best individuals to fill the roles within their companies and deliver value to their business and ultimately their customers.

So whether you agree or disagree with Yahoo the fact is flexible working is a reality and unlikely to go away soon. Colt fully understands the importance of this and we have recently updated and refreshed our Workforce Mobility offer. As an add-on option for IP VPN and IP Access it’s now even easier to order, deliver and manage your users’ remote access needs. Once initiated, Workforce Mobility allows users to securely access your company’s IT infrastructure from wherever they can get an internet signal; whether that be a 4G connection on the train, a broadband connection at home or a Wi-Fi signal in an airport.

Workforce Mobility also offers;

Simple set fee per user per month: ensuring no surprises on your bills

Management within the Colt Cloud: ensuring we can get you up and running in a matter of days without the need for extra hardware

Secure portal: ensuring you can manage all your users via a secure on-line portal.

With options like Workforce Mobility maybe we are becoming more mobile in our approach to work and buildings like the Shard won’t be filled with office workers. What do you think? Are we becoming more flexible in our approach to remote working?
